Happy Holidays from Transitional Resources — Your Help Matters

Your Support Today Protects Services Tomorrow

Growing up, Shelby seemed to struggle more than other kids with her emotions. She watched her parents cope in unhealthy ways with undiagnosed mental health conditions and began to cope in similar ways with her own challenges, turning to drugs to help numb the anxiety and depression that plagued her. But nothing could prepare her for the tragedy and grief she would soon face.

Following the sudden loss of her partner of 12 years, Shelby’s symptoms dramatically worsened. Lost in a haze of grief and depression, she found herself without a home, and wandered the streets feeling empty and hopeless. Desperate for help, Shelby admitted herself to the hospital, where the right medication finally offered her some relief. However, she still had no job, no shelter, and nowhere to go to continue her progress and rebuild her life. That’s where TR stepped in.

With a roof over her head, surrounded by peers who could relate to her mental health experiences, and supported by TR’s amazing staff, Shelby began rebuilding her life. Days filled with small routines, rediscovering hobbies, and weekly group activities turned into building blocks for healing. Her journey hasn’t been easy, but she has found stability and purpose thanks to TR’s support.

Her accomplishments since arriving at TR include earning her business license, celebrating sobriety milestones, and reconnecting with her kids. Shelby credits TR for helping her, saying “I have a solid ground where I can start to get my life back to where I want to [be]. Someplace to call my home and I can just be at peace and work on myself.”

As we look back on this year, we’re deeply grateful for your generosity and commitment to our mission. As the needs of our community grow, we are grateful to have people who understand the importance of providing stability and safety to those we serve. Shelby’s story illustrates the power of compassion, stability, and community that you help TR provide each day.

But as we approach the end of the year, our organization faces an unprecedented challenge; the looming cuts to Medicaid and other government funding has put us in a precarious position, and the funding we have come to expect is now uncertain.

While we don’t know specifics, we assume the budget gap will be significant and will put our critical behavioral health and housing programs on shaky ground. Without access to treatment and housing, stability becomes much more difficult for our clients, and they risk losing all the progress they have made to rebuild their lives.

Your year-end gift can help us bridge that gap. Together we can keep our staff and services in place and ensure our clients have a safe, affordable place to live when they have nowhere else to turn.

You can help people like Shelby receive the support they need to live safe and meaningful lives this holiday season and beyond.
