An Achievement in Advocacy

Congratulations to TR client Joey, who was selected as a 2019 Community Change Champion by The Arc of King County! Joey shared his own personal story in testimony before the Washington House Health Care & Wellness Committee in support of HB 1199. This bill lifted income caps on our state’s Healthcare for Workers with Disabilities program, and it was signed into law earlier this year.

Joey expressed his interest in being a mental health advocate after achieving many other significant milestones, wanting to use his own recovery to support others who are struggling with mental illness. He is currently finishing his final year in Bellevue College’s Occupational Life Skills Program. He lives in his own apartment and has a longtime job at a local grocery store. Joey is looking forward to continuing his advocacy work.

Way to go Joey!
