Warm Wishes for the Holiday Season
Just a few years ago, Olivia led a quiet, familiar life. After working at Microsoft for several years, she was laid off in 2020. The loss was a shock, but she tried to stay positive by volunteering and making the best of her situation. However, as time passed and her severance ran out, Olivia began experiencing symptoms of serious mental illness—gaps in her memory, paranoia, and a sense that her mind was slipping away. Initially attributing these symptoms to depression, her condition worsened until a crisis landed her in the hospital, where she was diagnosed with schizophrenia.
After a month-long hospital stay, Olivia stabilized but had nowhere to go. Her family was concerned but unsure how to support her—that’s when she found Transitional Resources, a place that became her helping hand. Now, 11 months later, Olivia feels grateful for the stability and clarity she’s gained. With TR’s support, she’s focused on healing and rediscovering herself, enjoying pastimes like football, sustainability education, and dreaming of future goals like traveling and furthering her tech skills. “For now, the most important thing is to heal my mind,” she says, “I feel blessed to be here, to have a place where I can talk to anyone [staff] at any time. I have the chance to work for myself and benefit my mental health.”
As the year comes to a close, Transitional Resources reflects on the lives we’ve touched thanks to your generosity. Every day we provide supportive housing and behavioral health services to low-income adults living with serious mental illness, offering them a path to stability, recovery, and hope. But as we approach the end of the year, we find ourselves facing a shortfall in our fundraising budget.
Your year-end gift will make a difference and ensure our clients have access to the compassionate and consistent services they need. This can be covering a client’s rent so they can stay housed and in treatment, or ensure a new client coming from the streets has food and other basic goods when they arrive. Together, we can make the holidays warmer and brighter for everyone. Thank you for standing with us and making a difference in the lives of so many.
This shortfall comes at a critical time when demand for our services is higher than ever. Transitional Resources serves some of King County’s most vulnerable neighbors, and falling short of our goals would have a profound impact on people like Olivia who are just restarting their lives after hardships that are almost impossible to imagine. Our work and our outcomes are some of the best in King County, and with your support, we can continue to make these positive contributions to both the individuals we serve and our community.
