Pathways to Recovery: Healing Through Art

“I feel they really care about me, They want the best for me, and push me in that direction. And they love my art!” -Jenza

Before she came to TR, Jenza had been homeless for years and was in and out of the hospital. She was struggling to cope with her undiagnosed mental illness, feeling the weight and pressures of life were too much to handle. She thought suicide was the only way out.

Thankfully, Jenza found TR in 2011. She became an outpatient client and had access to behavioral health treatment, a case manager, and supportive housing. She also found a therapeutic outlet through art therapy. Like many of our clients, Jenza has continued to face ups and downs in her recovery, and we are able to stick with her and adjust her level of services she receives as needed.

Today, Jenza shows and sells art around the community and has hopes for the future. Her art was featured this January at the West Seattle location of Verity Credit Union. She continues to celebrate her new life and appreciates how far she has come with TR’s support.
