One Big Beautiful Bill Update: What It Means for Our Community One week ago, the House of Representatives passed the final version of the One Big Beautiful Bill (OBBB) Act, and President Trump signed the act into law on July 4. The sweeping legislation includes major cuts to Medicaid and supportive services that thousands of people across the country, and our community, rely on. Transitional Resources serves people who are on Medicaid, and we see the real-life impact of Medicaid and housing programs every day. With the passage of the One Big Beautiful Bill, we are entering a period of uncertainty. At this point, we don’t yet know the full extent of how our organization will be directly affected, but we are deeply concerned about the impact this legislation will have on the broader systems that our clients rely on to keep them stable and in recovery. These services are lifelines—and no matter what happens in D.C, we remain committed to protecting and expanding access to care in our community. For those who took up the mantle and fought with us to advocate for the safety and health of those we serve and the many, many others who rely on Medicaid, thank you. It may not feel like a victory, but your voice added to a chorus of others who made a clear statement to our legislators—we will not stand by while the most vulnerable among us are cut out. Now we face a challenging time ahead, and we are counting on our community to stand strong with us and rise to meet this challenge with compassion, integrity, and persistence. Here’s how you can make a difference:
- Support our programs by giving one-time or by becoming a monthly donor.
- Join us at our upcoming events to stand up for housing, healthcare, and hope. Save the date for our annual fundraising event, An Evening of Inspiration, on September 25.
- Share our work with your friends and networks—the more people who know about our work, the stronger our impact. Find us on social media!
- Continue to share your stories with lawmakers. Your stories help show lawmakers that people (i.e. voters) are paying attention and are about these programs. Tell them how Medicaid impacts your community, your family, or your work. Find your legislators here: https://www.usa.gov/elected-officials
This is a challenging time, but we believe in the power of community. Together, we can keep showing up for those who need us most, no matter what comes next in Washington. On behalf of the Board of Directors, staff, and clients at Transitional Resources, thank you for standing with us.
